Work

Overview

I’m a software engineering generalist. Full stack web app development is where I really shine, but I’ve also done everything from setting up infrastructure in AWS to designing user interfaces and writing public documentation. I’ve spent 8 years building zero-to-one products in tech startups, most recently leading Verified’s engineering team through the company’s first $6M in funding and 50k users as founding engineer. I’m currently building silly stuff on the internet for fun while I figure out my next career move.

History

Distribute

I started my career at Distribute, a seed stage startup in the wholesale industry. I along with two others who started on the same day were tied for engineer #3. Our core product was the Distribute Store, an ecommerce-like web app that allowed manufacturers, retailers, and everyone in the supply chain in between to buy and sell products. I was at the company for a little under two years, rising to senior software engineer and de facto frontend lead. Projects I worked on included product search, order flow, and our migration to React.

Pnyka

Pnyka was a pre-seed civic/social tech company focused on improving the way people have conversations online. It was founded by some friends of one of my colleagues from Distribute, and I joined as engineer #2 shortly after my time at Distribute ended. Pnyka’s functionality was centered around “Assemblies”, structured chats that were optimized to include participants with a variety of viewpoints and backgrounds. We were ultimately unable to raise seed funding, and shut down after I’d been there for about a year.

Verified

I joined Verified, a digital identity startup, as founding engineer in 2019. The founders had just spun it out of their previous company, a civic tech app, and raised some pre-seed money to get started building. We initially followed the developing w3c specs around Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs). I led design and development of several iterations of our core software, building many demo and proof-of-concept apps along the way. Additionally, I worked closely with the founders to build our early development process, interview and hiring process, and company culture. I stayed with the company for four and a half years through multiple fundraising rounds totaling over $6m and our first 50k users.

Indie Develompent and Content Creation

I've burned out on full time work, and am now focusing on doing my own thing, building stuff on the internet for fun (and hopefully profit).

Freelancing and Contract Work

In the meantime, I'm also looking for part-time work to help pay the bills. Want to learn more? Hit me up or check here for details.
